Seeking Jesus

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 13:29 NIV

What does it mean to SEEK God with all your heart?

Does it mean traveling vast distances at great personal cost?

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his starwhen it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2: 1-2 NIV

Does it mean following a sign in the heavens to worship a baby—before he has done anything worthy of worship?

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2: 10-11 NIV

Does it mean giving precious gifts?

Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11 NIV

Does it mean defying a King at the risk of your life?

And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. Matthew 2:12 NIV

It meant these things to the Magi described in the Bible. But what does seeking God with your whole heart look like? Do you even want to seek him?

For me it meant pursuing Jesus in the Biblical accounts, asking questions of those who called themselves his followers, and asking God in prayer to unveil my mind and give me faith.

I sought Jesus despite the antagonism of friends and family and the obstacles placed in my way of hearing his words because I was desperate for the hope and love he proclaimed.

I sought Jesus with all my heart and he awakened my faith. He spoke to my heart and freed me from my sin and shame. He embraced me and gave me life. I can’t deny the experience nor can I deny my Lord. I want his light to brightly shine through me.

Will you seek Jesus with all your heart? Trust me—you will find him!

  2. So enjoy your words Nicole……you articulate what so many of us think and feel as well. “He (Jesus) spoke to my heart and freed me from my sin and shame. He embraced me and gave me life….”
