A Supernatural Beginning

God sends an angel to Mary—you will conceive the Son of the Most High!

God sent the angel Gabriel to… Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you…You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. (from Luke 1:26-31 NIV)

God sends an angel to Joseph—you will be father to God with us!

Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit…an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins…The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means “God with us.” (From Matthew 1: 18-23 NIV)

God sends angels to the shepherds—a Savior has been born to you!

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests”…So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.  (From Luke 2:8-16 NIV)

Angels fill the skies singing, “Glory to God in the highest heaven!” The sign of God’s glory and our salvation— a baby in swadding cloths lying in a manger surrounded by shepherds.
