There are many wonderful verses in Proverbs chapter 3, but one which pricks my conscience every time I read it is verse 27.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Proverbs 3:27 ESV).
God has blessed me with so many advantages – I did not earn them nor do I deserve them. Nevertheless, God graciously blesses me with every provision. I feel his call to use the resources he gives responsibly and selflessly. I am naturally selfish and this doesn’t come easily.
Everyday, I pray for the Spirit of God to quicken my spirit to see the needs around me and give me the courage to do good. I fail often, but God continues to provide opportunity. When I do obey – giving my time, help, encouragement, or money, I am rewarded with joy and contentment.
So today, I pray for myself, as well as for you, to do good to others when it is in our power to do so. As with all God’s commands, the benefit is truly ours.
Read the rest of Proverbs 3 and let me know what strikes you.
