“Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9b ESV
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23 ESV
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:10 ESV
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 ESV
The word behold means look, see, observe. But I feel it carries stronger emphasis – LOOK! SEE! OBSERVE! because of the impact of the news which follows. Good news, news that changed the course of human existence.
LOOK! Our king came. He reigns!
SEE! God was with us and we saw it. His Spirit dwells in us!
OBSERVE! His appearance brought joy for all people. Abiding JOY!
LOOK! Our sacrificial Lamb took away our sin. We received his righteousness!
Behold Jesus, my friend. Draw near to him, learn from him, embrace him, abide with him.
BEHOLD! He is the Son of God!
