What really hangs in the balance?

The pro-abortion bill New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, signed into law last week has instigated a barrage of media for and against late-term abortions. In this age of 3-D sonography, where the facial expressions and movements of a fetus are clearly visible to any eye, it is ludicrous to deny the life of the unborn.

In the Declaration of Independence, our founders said governments were formed to secure certain unalienable rights:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…

It seems to me, the real issue is not if unborn babies are alive and have unalienable rights, or whose happiness takes precedence, but whether any self-evident truths exist.

This is not a new dilemma. From the Garden of Eden, moral truth has been challenged, and the result of disregarding it has always led to the loss of life – from Cain’s murder of his brother Abel to the gruesome crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Our enemy is not Trump or Cuomo, but the great Deceiver, also called the Prince of Lies, who was a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44 NASB). Consider the cost of his deception in more recent history.

Blacks are not people, they are property.

Jews are inferior and should be exterminated.

It is not a baby, it is a blob of tissue.

Divorce will make everyone happy.

Women should be allowed the same sexual freedom as men.

When the truth is misconstrued, it has very destructive ends.

African-Americans can tell you, as a people group, they still suffer the consequences of slavery in the form of racism, violence, and segregation.

European Jews were tortured and killed in World War II. Danger and violence against them continues today.

Millions of unborn babies are killed and pulled from their mother’s wombs in the name of women’s reproductive rights.

My parents divorced when it was socially unacceptable. We grew up under constant financial strain and near poverty for many years. Insecurity, fear, and a victim-mentality defined my youth. Today over half of marriages end in divorce, many of which involve children. Do not believe for a moment my experience growing up was in some way unique. Children of divorce are more likely to have emotional and behavioral disorders, to commit suicide, to deal with alcohol and drug addiction, and to end up divorcing. *

Under the misapprehension, women will only be truly equal when they can live as the most irresponsible and dishonorable of men, women have become victim to the most horrific abuses. The idea that women can and should have sex whenever it suits them and without a legal contract (marriage license), has led to high rates of sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, depression, and suicide. Children born out-of-wedlock, are among the poorest and most neglected in our nation. Promiscuity also strips women of self-respect and self-worth. These women are used and abused.

Unadulterated, unabridged, unashamed Truth is what is hanging in the balance. There is One who came to testify to the truth (John 18:37 NASB), called himself the truth (John 14:6 NASB), and promised abundant Life to those who placed their faith in him (John 5:24 NASB).

If the truth is what you seek, look into the person of Jesus Christ.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10 NASB)
