Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.(Proverbs 12:1 NKJV)
This verse always makes me smile because of its simplicity and frankness. Loving the process is loving the outcome, it is foolish to think you can achieve anything without instruction.
Imagine a piano teacher who never expected you to practice, or a language teacher who never corrected your mistakes. Could you become a concert pianist? Would you be understood?
The football player who doesn’t submit to their coach doesn’t play in the game. A basketball player who doesn’t practice shooting the ball will not be making many baskets.
It’s shortsighted to believe you can become proficient at anything really, without discipline or instruction.
We know it’s true – and so does God.
