Matthew 11:28

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

When we stop and notice Jesus sitting by the well, we are liberated by the reality of his humanity and experience of fatigue to affirm our own humanity, and to recognise that we, too, have limits…We cannot keep producing the goods without respite. We need a break. We need to sit by the well.

Jeremiah 31:25

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.

In Isaiah 40, we are presented with a picture of the greatness  of the Creator God, who himself does not grow tired or weary (v. 28)…poured into the weakness of the created, enabling them to soar like eagles, carried along by a strength that is not their own (vv. 29, 31).

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
